Editorial Policy

The following is the Pilot Editorial Policy. It applies to both the print and online publications.

As the official student-produced newsmagazine of Lindbergh High School, Pilot’s primary mission is to inform, persuade, entertain, inspire, and guide the students, faculty and community, while practicing journalistic ethics and good taste.

Pilot is a member of the St. Louis Sponsors of School Publications, the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association, the Quill and Scroll Society, the Journalism Education Association, the National Scholastic Press Association and the Columbia Scholastic Press
Association.

Student editors, lead by the editor-in-chief, make all content decisions. Unsigned editorials express the opinion of the Pilot staff. Bylined editorials and other opinion content reflects the views of the writer only. Opinions expressed are not necessarily shared by the Pilot, or the staff, administration or the school board of the Lindbergh School District, unless so attributed.

Pilot, in all its forms, is established by policy and practice as a limited public forum for student expression. The Pilot welcomes letters to the editor and guest columns. Letters and guest columns may be brought to Room 129 and may be published as space allows. Typed letters of 300 words or less are preferred and will be given priority. Pilot reserves the right to refuse all material and to edit for grammar, clarity, invasion of privacy, substantial disruption, or other legal restrictions, as determined by the editor-in-chief. All submissions are subject to legal restrictions, as are all contents of the Pilot. Submissions must be signed with contact information for confirmation, although contact information will not be printed on request.

In the event of the death of a current Lindbergh School District student, staff, administrator, or any alumni that has a direct connection to LHS, Pilot may include and article or obituary in the next issue if deemed appropriate by the editor-in-chief. Pilot will use great caution in any acknowledgment, but beleives no death should go unmentioned.
